Ruth Paladino-Figueroa
Ruth, founder of the Nirvana Project, is an immigrant from Nicaragua whose life embodies resilience, creativity, and compassion. Although she earned a Law degree in her home country, her true passion has always been rooted in the art of sewing, tailoring, and fashion design — a craft that reflects her meticulous attention to detail and creative spirit.
Now living in the U.S. with her husband, Carlos, originally from Venezuela, Ruth is the proud mother of two children. Together, they have built a life grounded in family values, cultural pride, and a deep commitment to community.
In 2017, guided by empathy and a strong sense of purpose, Ruth founded the Nirvana Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the inclusion of people with physical disabilities in the sport of running. Through this initiative, she advocates for equal access, empowerment, and the transformative impact that sports can have on individuals, families, and communities.
The Nirvana Project’s mission is to promote a healthy, active lifestyle by integrating athletes with physical disabilities — along with their families and friends — into running events from 5Ks to 10Ks, marathons, triathlons, and obstacle races.
Ruth’s journey is one of courage and impact. From rebuilding her life in a new country to creating a movement rooted in inclusion and human potential, she continues to inspire others through her kindness, determination, and unwavering belief that everyone deserves a place at the starting line.
